Want to know more about Japan

Day 30(13/June/2019)

(Route-Lab) Kushiro-Bekkai Nishishunbetsu

I left Nemuro city at 740am. Temp:9C. This temp:9C was the lowest one in Hokkaido this morning. I could pedal much easier than yesterday thanks to less wind.

Near to the place “Swan44Nemuro” where I had a rest yesterday, I found a man with camouflage cloth on the other side of road. What is he doing? I went closer and found that he was taking photos of cranes. I also tried the same. And one more with a man & cranes.

There were a lot of road signs which showed the distance from this point to the city of Kushiro (the biggest city in this area). However, it was put every 500m. From Nemuro to Kushiro it is more than 120km. It means 240pcs of sign are put theoretically. If the cost/pc is US$500, the cost of this sign in only this road is around US$120K. I saw the similar sign on day15(29/May), which showed the length of river from the border of that district (not river mouth). It was put every 200m. They are very costly.

After I returned 33km on the same road yesterday, I arrived Attoko. I turned on the right and moved to the north.

I also found the caution for bear. According to this sign, the bear was witnessed on 23/May. It is good information for me. However, this sign was too small for car/motorbike drivers. There are no walking people. It means this sign is only for cyclist?

Arrived Betsukai Nishishunnbetsu at 1530pm. Today’s mileage:90km, tunnel passed:0
