Day82(4/August/2019) 指宿―喜入―鹿児島(Ibusuki-Kiire-Kagoshima)

今日は７１０発。晴れ。気温２６度。１．５時間ほどで喜入（きいれ）に到着。喜入にはJXの備蓄基地があり、日本の使用量の2週間分の石油を備蓄しているとの事。
今日は喜入（きいれ）930発のバスに乗って知覧特攻平和会館に向かう。鹿児島といえば特攻隊、特攻隊といえば知覧。「その内容を知らずして日本人にあらず。」と思いながら知覧に向かう。自転車で来なくて良かった。山越え谷越え到着した。
知覧から特攻隊が出て行ったのは1945年の4月から。残り4か月で終戦でした。17歳から32歳までの1000人以上の若者たちが、爆弾を積んだ飛行機で無残にも散ってきました。特攻隊の語り部という人の話を30分聞いていたら、私もこみあげてくるものがありました。もう会えない子供たちへのカタカナの遺書。今まで育ててくれた継母へ「お母さん」と呼べなかった自分が最後に「お母さん」と三度も叫ぶ遺書などを読み上げられ、嗚咽するのをこらえるのが大変でした。
特攻隊員たちの写真、手紙、遺書が展示してありました（写真は禁止です）。驚いたのがその手紙や遺書の字の美しさ。これだけの字を平均22歳くらいの若者たちが特攻出発前夜に書けるとは、なんと戦前の教育は素晴らしかったことか！ この遺書の字を見るだけでもここに来る意味があります。戦後の我々は何をしてきたのか？
若者たちは日本全国から知覧に集められ、ここで数日すごし沖縄に飛び立っていきました。宿舎も敵の飛行機に見つからないように、松林の中の粗末な小屋でした。
最後のお別れが、昨日見た開聞岳でした。我々戦後の人々は、この人たちや多くの戦争犠牲者のおかげで生きているのです。昔の話だけど、忘れてはいけない話です。
薩摩半島側の海沿いの道は快適（平坦）だった。大隅半島とは大違い！
鹿児島中央駅に到着。前回鹿児島に来たときは九州新幹線開通前の2011年以前だったんだな！

710am departure. Temp:26C. I arrived “Kiire” station after 1.5 hour. There was an oil storage base of JX company. This can cover the volume of 2weeks of total consumption of Japan.
I moved from Kiire station to “Special Attack Memorial Museum” in Chiran town. As you may know, at the final stage of WWII, Japan created special military operation, namely “Special Attack”. To be frank, it was a crazy operation. The fighter itself with bomb attacked to the battleships of U.S. By this operation, more than 1000 young people (17 to 32) who fled from Chiran airport were died.
I attended 30min lecture about this special attack. He explained why this operation was created, who were young people and how they left from Chiran airport. It was very difficult for me not to cry. Many people were also crying in this lecture.
This museum exhibited the photo of these young people, last letters and testaments. I was shocked to know how almost of all writings of these letters were extremely beautiful. I couldn’t write at this level. How good the education of before-war was! What had been we doing after-war? It is worthwhile to visit this museum just for seeing these beautiful writings.
Young people were gathered from all over Japan. And they spent some days in this shabby lodging before their departures.
We never forget that Japan exists now under many sacrifices of WWII. We should deeply consider how associate with foreign countries.
The sea-side road from Ibusuki to Kagoshima was flat and it was nice ride for bicycle. I arrived Kagoshima city, and this was the 2nd visit for me. It was in 2010 before Kyushu-Shinkansen was completed.
