Day86(8/August/2019) 八代―熊本(Yatsushiro - Kumamoto)

熊本に出発する前に、昔自分の住んでいた家から、通っていた中学校まで自転車で通ってみた。卒業して45年以上も経っているので当然大きく変わってしまった。ここに住んでいた友人たちは今何処？センチメンタルジャーニーでした。８１０出発。気温29度。八代といえば十条製紙（現日本製紙）。中学1年のころ田舎（八代よりもっと田舎）から転校して来た時、八代駅前の巨大な工場からモクモクと煙を出す十条製紙に圧倒されました。製紙工場特有の臭いも、味の素みたいな「発展の素」と感じていました。その工場を見ずに何を見る！
丁度逆光の写真になってしまいましたが、モクモクは健在。しかし臭いが全くしなかった。これも技術発展のおかげか？旅行者としては「寂しいような、嬉しいような」複雑な気分。11時前にはもう熊本に着いてしまった。聞いてはいたが、熊本駅がすっかり変わって昭和風から令和風になった。
駅前にもビルが建設中で、周辺を含めた完成は来年とのこと。以前、この辺りは駅前とはいえ寂れていたが、大きく変わりつつあります。
駅の中に入ってみると物産館やレストラン街も大きくモダンになった。大好物の熊本ラーメンも夏は大汗をかくので食べないが、既に大汗をかいてグチョグチョになっているので、ちゅうちょなく桂花（けいか）ラーメン」へ。桂花ラーメンは、熊本ラーメンを全国区に押し上げた先駆者です。
昨日、中学校を訪問したんだったら、当然高校も行かないと！ 我が「熊本高校」の前で一枚。クラブ活動の学生たちがいた。
デパートで時間をつぶし、定番の位置から熊本城を写し、振り返りざま熊本一番の繁華街「下通り（しもとおり）」を写す。ガンバレ熊本！
夜は、熊本高校の同級生たちが激励会を開いてくれた。切り上げ７０の年になっても、持つべきものは友です。アリガタヤ、アリガタヤ。

Before departing to Kumamoto, I made a short sentimental journey. I went to the place where I had lived more than 45 years ago and moved to old junior high school as I had commuted. After 45years, many things had changed.
810am departure. Temp:29C. There is a big paper mill factory in Yatsushiro city. It was called “Jujo Paper Mill” and now changed to “Nihon Paper Mill”. When I saw it first time 48years ago, I had a kind of pride of “industry development”. Although there was a bad smell from the factory, I thought this was an aroma of development. Today I didn’t smell at all. This was thanks to the current technology?
Before 11am, I arrived Kumamoto Station. This station was transferred to the new one and the area in front of the station was also under construction. It will be completed within 2020. I entered the station and realized it was totally changed. Although I love Kumamoto-Ramen(noodle), I don’t eat it in summer because I have a heavy sweating. However, today I already sweated heavily, I went to the famous Ramen restaurant. It was good!
Yesterday I went to my junior high school. Today I should go to my high school (Kumamoto high school). I took a photo in front of school gate.
I still had a time for check in today’s inn. I killed the time in the department store. In front of this department store, I took photos of Kumamoto Castle and the busiest street in the city, namely “Shimo-tohri”.
In the evening, my high school friends kindly arranged the encouragement-party for me. I got a lot of energies from them and had confidences to complete this journey.
